The successful candidate will serve as an advocate for Shields hospital partners to gain access to commercialized and pipeline biopharmaceutical products that will be distributed through limited distribution channels. Given that pharmacies on the Shields platform have access to the pharmacy dispensing system, the EMR and robust data reporting capabilities, the value proposition should be apparent to the biopharmaceutical industry but timing is key.  This individual should have an understanding of the process pharmaceutical companies go through to determine the distribution network for a clinical stage asset and understand the key value propositions that channel partners need to demonstrate in order to gain access to limited distribution pharmaceutical products.


  • Perform a holistic review of Shields existing access to commercialized limited distribution products and identify any gaps
  • Analyze the pharmaceutical pipeline of phase II & III clinical trials to determine which new oral and self-administered drugs will be launching in therapeutic areas that Shields partner hospitals currently service today (oncology, rheumatology, neurology, transplant, pulmonology, hepatology, etc.)
  • Analyze the pharmaceutical pipeline of phase II & III clinical asses to determine which disease states with unmet needs will be serviced by specialty pharmaceutical products in the future (NASH, etc.)
  • Build a prioritized list of limited distribution drug targets that Shields should pursue and create a detailed action plan for each target on a proposed approach to obtain access
  • Proactively reach out to targeted biopharmaceutical companies through meetings, conferences, advocacy groups and professional networks to execute each action plan and gain access to targeted limited distribution drug channels
  • Work with pharmaceutical companies to identify potential areas of collaboration with Shields and/or partner Health Systems to strengthen relationships and achieve other business goals
  • Read copious amounts of analyst reports and industry news to build a perspective on the most promising biopharmaceutical targets
  • Create a tangible, individualized action plans to gain access to targeted limited distribution drugs
  • Gain organizational buy-in from Shields corporate staff and hospital partners on proposed action plans
  • Travel to the headquarters of biopharmaceutical companies to build relationships with executives and clearly articulate the value proposition of a hospital based specialty pharmacy channels
  • Attend industry conferences, trade shows and seminars to serve as an advocate for Shields and to build brand awareness of the channel
  • Track and communicate progress against the actions plans and report to Shields corporate leadership
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations


  • Analytical ability to read, analyze and synthesize copious volumes of market analysis to form theses on the biopharmaceutical products with the largest market potential
  • Ability to identify macro trends in the market place
  • Proactive disposition to personally implement the action plan
  • Creative thinking to devise alternative action plans if a particular approach fails
  • Confidence to approach most senior pharmaceutical executives in a variety of formats to pitch the features and benefits of the Shields distribution channel
  • Advanced PowerPoint capabilities to effectively communicate complex topics
  • Strong verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to build collaborative and meaningful relationships across a diverse group of stakeholders (Pharmaceutical executives, industry consultant , c-suite hospital executives, and Shields corporate employees)
  • Capable of operating with limited direct oversight
  • Able to execute under pressure and tight timelines
  • Strong project management skills
  •  A bachelor's degree is required and an MD, MBA or MPH is preferred
  • 7+ years of experience in healthcare strategy consulting or pharmaceutical marketing, market access or supply chain roles; experience with specialty pharmaceutical products is strongly preferred
